1) Healthcare Alert — Could Britain’s Health Care Rationing Come to the States? You better believe it
While all eyes have been on the debt ceiling and the budget national health care has gotten a break from the spotlight. But it is still out there and you need to be informed. Britain has had national health care since about 1948 and we could stand to learn a thing or two from them. Read the following to learn what is currently going on with Britain’s NHS, and what could very well be in store for Americans if we continue down this path.
— According to a report from The Independent, some of the procedures being rationed in the UK now include:
- Hip and knee replacements only being allowed where patients are in severe pain. Overweight patients will be made to lose weight before being considered for an operation.
- Cataract operations being withheld from patients until their sight problems “substantially” affect their ability to work.
- Patients with varicose veins only being operated on if they are suffering “chronic continuous pain”, ulceration or bleeding.
- Tonsillectomy (removing tonsils) only to be carried out in children if they have had seven bouts of tonsillitis in the previous year.
- Grommets to improve hearing in children only being inserted in “exceptional circumstances” and after monitoring for six months.

2). Cities Sinking Under the Pressure
Central Falls, RI is just one of several cities, not to mention states, which have become cash strapped in these difficult economic times. What has set Central Falls apart this week is that its state-appointed receiver has filed bankruptcy on behalf of the city. One of the city’s largest expenses is the pensions it owes to retired city workers; $80 million in unfunded pensions.
But Central Falls is not the only city struggling; others include Jefferson County, Ala., Harrisburg, Pa. and Vallejo, Ca. If we as, communities and a nation, are going to survive tough changes are going to have to come.

3) Energy Updates!!
Energy independence has become one of the most important issues to me in the last year and half. Not only because it kills me every time I have to put gas in my car, but because it puts us as a nation at risk to continue to depend on foreign sources of oil and natural gas. Not to mention the jobs that could be created by investing here at home.
Obama made it a point to tell the nation to “light up the capitol” by calling your Congressmen/women during the debt issue; I would like to ask you to “light up” the White House switch board and let him know he needs to back off the regulations and push through the current leases.
You can also let Congress know they need to move on the bills they have before them too.
On Friday Obama unveiled a major compromise agreement to boost federal fuel economy standards.
Following that unveiling the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. Issa announced that the committee will be investigating the closed door meetings that lead to the agreement.
House passes HR1938 (279-147) a bill that will force the administration to finally make a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline whose permit has been in State Department for 3 years. The pipeline would bring millions of barrels of oil from Canada and potentially create 100,000 jobs.
Sen. Bingaman (Chairman of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee) introduced S916 the Oil and Gas Facilitation Act of 2011 which would “facilitate appropriate oil and gas development on Federal land and waters, to limit dependence of the United States on foreign sources of oil and gas, and for other purposes.” However this bill has been sitting in the committee since 5/17/2011.
